The Stellantis group and more particularly its two hexagonal locomotives, Peugeot and Citroën are not in the rhythm. The group fell by 7% in a market that grew by nearly 20%. Market shares are visibly melting, the lion losing nearly 4 points over the month and 2 over the year. Only DS and Alfa Romeo do better than all manufacturers. The Fiat 500, well helped by the success of its electric version, joins the annual Top 10.
Unlike Stellantis, the Renault group is progressing vigorously. Whether it’s Alpine from Dacia or Renault, both monthly and cumulatively, the figures are all above average. Dacia’s market share now exceeds 9%, the brand consolidating its 3rd place, behind Renault, which is back in the lead and overtakes Peugeot.
Still down sharply from 2019, except for Hyundai
Volkswagen shows flattering results. In July, the group registered nearly 6,400 more vehicles than last year! A record. All the brands contribute to the collective effort, with a special mention for Cupra which triples the bet.
Nissan continues to climb the slope, just like Suzuki, Land Rover or Lexus. Ford is gradually approaching the annual trend, Mercedes is returning to its usual market share of 3% while Toyota is capitalizing. Tesla, which registers more than 2,700 cars and half of MG, are among these post-Covid entrants which continue to show strong growth over the year.
100% internal combustion engines, Gasoline, Diesel, Super Ethanol and LPG still account for more than 55% of sales. A figure in slight decline, like that of sales of 100% electric – which is explained by a hollow month at Tesla -. The upturn of the month essentially benefits hybrids.
If we compare January to July 2023 compared to the same months of 2019, Stellantis is down from 499,390 registrations to 294,552, i.e. -41%! The Renault group goes from 333,346 to 258,797, or -22.4%. The VW group, for its part, fell from 169,617 units to 138,799, or -18.2%. The Hundai group is progressing from 50,386 registered vehicles to 57,478, or +14%! The market as a whole declines by 24% between 2019 and 2023.
