A question of angle
Spy photos have already circulated following camouflaged runs of the future M5 at the Nürburgring, but this time it would be a photo of the bare bodywork. Shared by @germanysfinest43 of Instagram, but neither the place nor the context of the snapshot is specified.
In any case, this would therefore confirm the trend taken by the BMW style recently. After the shock of the grilles with hypertrophied beans, BMW surprised its world again by moving towards an increasingly angular design, first on the M2 with its square air intakes and its protuberances at the level of the shields, then with the XM extreme SUV straight out of a Transformers movie but also with the new 7 series and its “Chinese” lines.
We find this trend with growths on the sides of the bumper revealing a vertical position light, as well as a diffuser in two angular sections integrating double exhaust outlets. Above them, a thin spoiler above the trunk gives the car a sporty look. Below, to the far right of the frame, the start of an M badge is made difficult to read due to glare from the intense lights above.
RS6 killer?
BMW is speculated to use the XM’s powertrain in the M5. That would make it a plug-in hybrid and put a twin-turbo V8 under its hood. While the XM puts out 748 HP and 1000 Nm of torque, it’s rumored to be tuned to produce 800 HP in the sedan. This new generation will also mark the return of the station wagon version, so as not to let the Audi RS6 Avant get bored, but obviously it will be necessary to give up on the fabulous V10 of the E60.
