The boss of the Red Bull industry, and former single-seater driver, explained in the calmest way possible that Perez was not as focused as Verstappen (on qualifying among other things) because he was “South American” and So he didn’t have his head completely focused, not like Max.
This is not the first time that Marko has made a perilous outing bordering on racism (or simply racist). Here, we don’t really understand the link between Perez’s Mexican nationality and his results. Helmut Marko, a fine motorsport connoisseur, cannot have forgotten that two Formula 1 legends were South American, with Juan-Manuel Fangio obviously, but also Ayrton Senna! Without forgetting that Mexico is not in South America as rightly noted.
What fly is on “Uncle Helmut” to make such a slip? The man is a “fine” communicator (well, not very fine, but skillful one might say) and this outing is not insignificant. Perez is clearly under pressure and if he did not understand with the (abortive) return of Daniel Ricciado in a seat, he will undoubtedly understand it with a second piece of information, this one more interesting.
Openly flirting with Lando Norris
Red Bull would have made an offer to young Lando Norris before he entered F1, to join Toro Rosso/AlphaTauri. Norris’s agent ultimately preferred McLaren. And Helmut goes on to say that it’s a shame that Norris has a contract for 2024. We’re not making it any clearer to tell his number 2 driver that he must raise the level otherwise he’ll be released.
There remains an outing with racist connotations, and we wonder how Marko and Red Bull will deal with all this at the next GP. Perhaps it’s time to retire, Mr. Marko? Before that, he felt that drivers who became fathers were less focused on racing and lost their level. Strong tackle on Vettel (among others). He stopped saying that when Verstappen was shown looking after Penelope, the daughter of his partner Kelly Piquet and Daniil Kvyat.
In June 2022, Juri Vips made openly racist remarks during a game of online video games. Red Bull was then very quick to sever all ties with the young Estonian driver. Marko then declared that it was the fault of the British press who had made too much noise around this “incident” while the pilot had apologized. And today ?
