Michael Schmitt: from Bosch to Tesla as Director Operation of the Giga-Factory
The information reported for the first time by the Electrek portal was later confirmed by the LinkedIn profile of Michael Schmitt: the latter now indicates that he works for Tesla as “Director Operation Giga Tesla”, specifying a location in Austin, Texas. , without however specifying which are the Giga-Factories for which he will provide operational management.
According to the analysis of some media, this suggests that his role is directly related to the Texas factory of Tesla, but that it could also be for him to ensure the operational direction of the new site of the manufacturer envisaged in Mexico.
As a reminder, Schmitt worked for Bosch for more than 25 years, including five years as head of Bosch auto parts manufacturing in Mexico.
Michael Schmitt is likely to support Tom Zhu at Tesla, who earlier this year, in addition to his role as head of China and the most senior Tesla sales manager in the rest of Asia, also took on overseeing the electric car manufacturer’s assembly plants in the United States and sales activities in North America and Europe.
Michael Hildebrand: from Eli Lilly to Tesla
Tesla has hired Michael Hildebrand as its new manager. The latter comes from pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly, where he was employed for 18 years.
He will lead the Nevada factory expansion as “Head of Gigafactory Nevada Expansion Engineering and Construction”.
Last January, the American manufacturer announced a massive expansion of its Nevada site. A new production facility for 4680 battery cells with a capacity of 100 gigawatt hours per year is planned, as well as another for the mass production of Tesla’s Electric Semi Truck.

In order to implement these plans, Tesla has planned investments of more than 3.6 billion dollars and wants to hire 3,000 new employees. Further information regarding the case, including that relating to the timetable, has not yet been made public.
Note, however, a significant departure from the US manufacturer : Zachery Kirkhorn has resigned as Tesla’s chief financial officer this week. Kirkhorn leaves the company after spending a total of 13 years there, including four years as chief financial officer (CFO). It will, however, remain available to Tesla until the end of the year to ensure a smooth transition. His successor has already been announced: it is Vaibhav Taneja, the current chief accountant.
