The VW ID.7 is a sedan which has a battery with a net capacity of 77 kWh, which gives it a WLTP range of up to 620 km for 286 horsepower. The launch version, called ID.7 Pro in “Style” finish, has certain standard equipment such as the augmented reality head-up display, the 360° Rear View camera, an autonomous driving assistant “Travel Assist”. Or more “gadget”, the intelligent ventilation management “Smart Air Vents” associated with three-zone air conditioning.
The ID.7 is a long sedan measuring 4.96 m in length, with a wheelbase of 2.96 m, the same as that of the Tesla Model S for example. The trunk is announced at 532 liters and VW announces it as “suitable for long distances”. The ID.7 Pro Style version therefore starts at €62,650 including tax, while the ID.7 Pro Style Exclusive starts at €67,990 including tax. It should be noted that the base price of the “Style” is with a “lunar gray” body for a plain black roof. 4 four colors or combinations are between €900 and €1,000 optional. At this price, it is not entitled to any electrical bonus.
Obviously, when we talk about electric vehicles, we think of Tesla, which has become “the” reference in many areas (not in all, editor’s note). The dimensions of this VW ID.7 do not put it directly against a Model 3 or a Model Y (approximately 10 cm less wheelbase), but rather against the Model S.
The Tesla Model S is only available in dual motor (all-wheel drive) or even tri-motor aka the Model S Plaid. The WLTP cycle gives 634 km for a 76 kWh battery which is similar to the VW ID.7 Pro Style. But, be careful, it’s with 21-inch wheels! In 19 inches, the range is 723 km. In addition, the Model S announces 709 liters of trunk space, 170 more than the Volkswagen. Not to mention a 0 to 100 km/h which blows away even the baldest of us since it is done in 3.2 seconds and even in 2.1 in Plaid.
But, its good performance and good characteristics, it makes the Tesla Model S pay dearly. It starts at €94,990, with note the free choice between 5 colors. The S Plaid, for its part, comes close (within €10) to €110,000. It is therefore much more than the VW ID.7 Pro Style which has the advantage here. An advantage that disappears if we look at the Model 3 or Model Y. A long-range Model 3 offers up to 678 km of autonomy (18-inch rims), 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and a trunk of 561 liters. On the other hand, the car is shorter than the VW ID.7 and this affects the wheelbase and therefore the interior space. It is therefore not directly opposite this ID.7 Pro (and we do not yet know about the finishes). But those who only look at the price (€50,990 including tax for the TM3 Grande Autonomie) or the “fashionable smartphone” side of Tesla will go to the American manufacturer.
